St. Michael’s Parish

Buffalo, New York

Located in downtown Buffalo, N.Y., St. Michael’s Parish draws the majority of its parishioners from the suburbs surrounding the city. The parish was founded in 1851 under the direction of the Jesuits and has remained so ever since.

Currently, St. Michael’s community has about 280 households, and the parish supports a regional school in the area. Several of the Jesuit priests currently serving at St. Michael’s are over the age of 80, and they remain apostolically active in performing sacramental ministry and serving the St. Michael’s community.

St. Michael’s spiritual outreach is primarily sacramental, offering three Masses a day and five on Sundays. The rectory is open daily for counseling and marriage preparation, and confession is offered every day, except Sunday. In addition, the parish presents the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius in a 19th Annotation format each year for about 25 people.

The parish’s outreach and support to the community includes Anointing of the Sick, and space is made available for two AA meetings a week.
