Fr. Edgar Tiblier SJ departed this life in the early morning of September 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Center in New Orleans. A native of New Orleans, Father Tiblier was born on September 11, 1925 and attended Holy Name of Jesus School and Jesuit High School before entering the Society of Jesus in Grand Coteau, LA, on August 14, 1943.
After professing his first vows, Father Tiblier studied at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, and St. Mary’s College in Kansas before being ordained a Roman Catholic priest on June 13, 1956 at St. Joseph Chapel on Spring Hill’s campus. While Father Tiblier served in the educational ministry of the Jesuits in Dallas, New Orleans, and Tampa, most of his life as a priest was given to parish work. He ministered at parishes in Albuquerque, NM; San Antonio, TX; Shreveport, LA; Mobile, AL; Corpus Christi, TX; Lafayette, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; and New Orleans, LA. Moreover, from 1970-1981, Father Tiblier was among the New Orleans Province Jesuits serving the Church in Brazil.
