Jesuit Offers Perspective on Aging in CatholicTV Miniseries

November 6, 2013 — Jesuit Father Myles Sheehan, provincial of the New England Province Jesuits and a specialist in geriatrics, addresses the needs and concerns of the aging and those who care for them in the five-part miniseries “Aging Gracefully” on CatholicTV.

Fr. Sheehan, a former physician with certification in internal medicine and geriatrics, explores a different topic in each episode on how to age with dignity and in keeping with Catholic values.

Topics include “The Spirituality and Wellness of Aging”; “Fears, Health Issues & Psychological Issues of Aging”; “Talking to Your Physician”; “The Gifts of Aging”; and “Challenges of Aging from a Spiritual Perspective; Thinking & Preparing for Death.”

The series includes interviews with guest experts and Jesuits at Campion Health Center in Weston, Mass. Psychiatrist Matthew McGonagle; Sister Kathleen Foley, director of spiritual services and chaplain at Campion Health Center; and Kate Morency, provincial assistant for healthcare of the New England Province Jesuits, are among the guests.

Fr. Sheehan, who served on the faculty and as Senior Associate Dean for Educational Programs at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, earned his undergraduate degree and doctorate in medicine at Dartmouth College with postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School.

All five episodes of the miniseries are available to watch online at the New England Province website.
