Ignatian Resources for Advent

December 1, 2013 — As we prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth during the four weeks of Advent, Ignatian contemplation and reflective prayer can help guide us through the season. Here are some online Advent resources in the tradition of Ignatian spirituality:

America Magazine is offering daily Scripture reflections from Dec. 1 until Christmas Eve, which will feature commentary by America staff members, including Jesuit Fathers James Martin and Raymond Schroth and Jesuit scholastic Luke Hansen. Sign up to receive the reflections by text or email.

Ignatianspirituality.com offers links to other Advent resources on the web, and its dotMagis blog is producing an Advent video series with a new video reflection posted each Sunday. View last year’s video series here.

Loyola Press has created an Advent website with printable and online calendars, prayers, an interactive retreat and more. New on the website for this year is the “Arts and Faith: Advent” video series, which explores the Scriptures in Advent through works of art.

Creighton University’s Online Ministries presents “Praying Advent 2013,” which has daily Advent prayers, resources and reflections.

Georgetown University’s Office of Mission and Ministry is offering an Advent daily devotional. Sign up online to receive the daily emails.

Boston College is posting an Advent Reflections series by Jesuit Father Joseph O'Keefe, director of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality.

The New England Province Jesuits have a podcast for each week of Advent, with reflections by Jesuits on the intersecting themes of Advent and Ignatian spirituality, as well as links to other Advent sites.

The Missouri Province Jesuits offer an Advent Examen seven-day prayer cycle. The Examen has an individual prayer for each day of the week, which can be repeated for each week of Advent.

The Maryland Province Jesuits are planning to offer weekly reflections and prayers written by their newest Jesuit priests: Jesuit Fathers Bill Noe, Stephen Surovick, Peter Folan and Michael Magree. Visit their website during the month of December to read the reflections.

Pray as You Go, run by the British Jesuits, and Sacred Space, run by the Irish Jesuits, are collaborating on a four-session Advent retreat with the theme "The God who is to come."
