Lawrence “Ryen,” 31, grew up in southwest Michigan and has a bachelor’s from St. John’s College, where he learned to love philosophy and classical literature. He worked for Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade organization that sells crafts handmade in developing countries and shares the stories of the people who made them. Ryen’s travels to Cambodia and Laos to visit artisan partners helped him appreciate the Jesuits’ commitment to social justice as an expression of faith. He enjoys hiking and playing Scrabble.
